Colleen Heon Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Givnish Funeral Home - Cinnaminson on Oct. 14, 2023.
Colleen R. Heon (nee Caden) passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Colleen courageously lived with breast cancer for the past 5 years. Born in Willingboro to Thomas and Kathleen Caden, Colleen was 53 years old. She was a resident of Mt. Laurel since 1998 and was raised in Delran. A graduate of Delran High School, class of '88, she attended Marymount University in Arlington, VA where she earned a Liberal Arts Degree in 1992, and later earned her Master's Degree in Education in 1994.
Colleen's personality was so attractive and lured anyone she met to come closer to her. To know Colleen was to want something better in your life, offering a spectacular balance of "feel good" sprinkled with a dose of respectful honesty. She was organic and genuine, with emotions drenched on her sleeves and leaving little to imagination once she engaged in conversation. She was open and enjoyed getting know people of all ages. Colleen was "social media" before there was social media. Her favorite thing to do was to watch her children dance and play sports with friends. "I love to watch you dance/play", was her phrase every time the kids were taken to their recital or game. And she encouraged everyone to "keep making those memories."
After graduation, Colleen taught elementary school in the City of Alexandria (VA) for 3 years until she gave birth to her first child, Alexa, in 1998. Her occupation immediately changed to stay-at-home-mom, her dream job. Built into Colleen's and Bruce's "marital contract", a move to South Jersey was executed so that she could be closer to home to raise her family. The family business flourished with the birth of Nicholas (2000) and Lukas (2006) and nothing made Colleen happier than being home with her own and teaching them her core values like kindness, respect, and honesty. In 2016, she returned to teaching in Moorestown Public Schools and was nervous to restart after 18 years away from the classroom. A close friend reassured her, "I know who you are. You're a mom with compassion and a degree. No parent could ask anything more from their child's elementary school teacher." Beloved wife of 28 years to Bruce A. Heon, cherished mother of Alexa, Nicholas and Lukas. Loving daughter of Tommy and Kathy Caden, sister of Christa Caden and the late Tommy Caden, IV. Niece of Joe and Adina Leone, Barbara Caden, Ray and Cheryl Caden, Bird Caden and the late Brian Caden. Aunt of Tyler and Cole Wykoff, Michaela and Madison Caden, and Nichole and Kendall Heon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Givnish Funeral Homes of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North. At 10:45 a.m. family members and close friends will be providing eulogies and songs of remembrance.
Colleen's Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 noon at Resurrection Parish, Church of the Holy Name site, 260 Conrow Rd. Delran, NJ 08075.
