Colleen Moreland, age 96, of Hayward, WI passed away on November 10, 2025 at Waters Edge Care Center.
Colleen W. Moreland was born in Hillsdale, WI, on April 19, 1929, the daughter of Joel E. and Catherine (Velten) Wesslen. She was an honors graduate of Barron High School and of UW-River Falls and taught one year at Hayward High School. She also worked for many years as a secretary in the law offices of Vincent P. Davis and Thomas W. Duffy in Hayward.
On June 9, 1951, she married John O. (Jack) Moreland of Hayward. In 1962, the couple adopted a precious baby girl, Robin, who they lovingly raised in Hayward.
Colleen was an active member of First Lutheran Church, especially the women's circles, the quilting and cardmaking projects, and sang in the choir for more than forty years. In 1986 she researched and wrote a history of First Lutheran Church to commemorate its centennial. She was also a longtime member of the VISITOR magazine, for which she wrote the "Serendipity" column.
Colleen is survived by her grandchildren, Carter (Ashley) Schuett, Molly Schuett, and Logan (Hannah) Schuett; her nephew, John (Erica) Wesslen; and niece, Kristine (John) Wesslen Weiner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; daughter, Robin; parents, Joel and Catherine Wesslen; and brother Jerry (Lois) Wesslen.
A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to First Lutheran Church and Northwoods Humane Society.
