Funeral services for Command Sergeant Major Johnny Roy Morrow will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.
Command Sergeant Major Morrow, 78, of Bossier City, entered eternal rest on Monday, September 23, 2024, in his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the Oliver Masonic Lodge #84, where he achieved the rank of Master Mason. He was a long-time member of the St. Michael's Episcopal Church, where he was a Vestery Board member and later a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church. After moving to Bossier City, he became a member of St. Mark's Cathedral and St. George's Episcopal Church.
Command Sergeant Major Morrow began his military career assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 156th Infantry, Jonesboro, Louisiana. From 1974 to 1980 he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 527th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy), Bossier City, Louisiana. From 1981 to 1983 he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment Louisiana Army National Guard, New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1983, he was reassigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 527th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy), Bossier City, Louisiana. In 1984, he was assigned to the National Guard Bureau Region VI Noncommissioned Officer Academy. During that time, he held the positions of Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, Assistant Commandant, and Commandant. He also held the position of State Command Sergeant Major for the State of Louisiana from 1993 - 2008.
Command Sergeant Major Morrow was a graduate of many military occupational and leadership courses. Of note, he attended the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Senior Noncommissioned Officer Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
Command Sergeant Major Morrow is a member of the Louisiana National Guard Enlisted Association, National Guard Enlisted Association of the United States, The Noncommissioned Officer Association, Noncommissioned Officer Museum Association, and Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of Directors for Friends of the Jackson Barracks Military Museum. After his military service, he became a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Mary Morrow.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife of forty-six years, Mary Josephine Morrow of Bossier City; three sons, Brian Morrow of Pineville, Sean Wayne Morrow (Jenny) of Pineville, and David Morrow (JoAnn) of Pineville; one daughter, Brandi Adams (John) of Georgetown, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Shively (Marvin) of Hodge; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
