Commodore Herron Haynes was born on August 14, 1955, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to the late John W. and Madeline (Allen) Haynes. He peacefully departed this life on October 9, 2025, in his sleep.

Commodore was named after his grandfathers, Commodore Allen and John Herron Haynes. For the first 18 years of his life, he was known by his middle name, Herron, to family and friends. He graduated from Marion Franklin High School, Class of 1973, and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Engineering from the Ohio Institute of Technology.

During his time at Marion Franklin, Herron was an exceptional athlete. He ran track and cross-country, excelling in the dashes, hurdles, and relays. He was part of the school's Citywide Championship team, earning him a place in the Hall of Fame. As a teenager, he was baptized at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church.

After graduating from OIT, Herron began using his first name, Commodore. He built a long career with GTE (now Verizon), traveling across the country as a project manager and contractor. His work focused on telecommunication facilities and developing traffic maps for cellular cable lines and towers. Later, he transitioned to work with the Columbus Auto Auctions and retired at age 62.

Commodore enjoyed being "large and in charge." He was a dedicated poll worker during elections and an active, proud member of the Freemasons, where he held several leadership roles, including Basileus of the Delaware, Ohio Lodge.

He had a passion for gardening, cooking, baking-and eating. A true "foodie," he loved discovering new recipes from television chefs and preparing meals for family. Commodore was also an avid sports fan, cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. After his daughters graduated from The Ohio State University, he converted from a Michigan fan to a loyal Buckeye! He also loved watching basketball and golf.

Family was the heart of Commodore's life. He cared tenderly for both of his parents in their later years and filled family gatherings with laughter and joy. He was especially looking forward to the next family reunion in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In August 1990, Commodore was united in holy matrimony with Revana Troutman. From this union were born their beloved daughters, Crystal Michelle, Carmen Rachelle, and Candice Chanel Haynes. Commodore took great joy and pride in naming his daughters and treasured his role as the family's photographer and videographer, preserving countless precious memories.

Though Commodore faced challenges with addiction throughout his life, he embraced recovery in his later years. He was proud to celebrate nearly one year of sobriety before his passing. During this time, he renewed his relationship with God, rediscovered his peace, and found joy in living with a clear mind and a loving heart. He enjoyed talking on the phone with family or eating a meal with his girls & grandchildren.

Commodore was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Madeline (Allen) Haynes, and his longtime best friend, Veronica Stith.

Commodore is survived by his wife, Revana Haynes; daughters, Crystal (Karina) Haynes, Carmen Haynes, and Candice Haynes; eight grandchildren, Isaiah, Isaac, Bradley, Harmony, Heavenly, Michelle, Kaleb, and Darlene; sisters, Rita Haynes-Newton and Brenda Haynes-Williams; nieces, Elisabeth and Lydia (Aaron); nephews, Aaron and Edward; great-niece and nephew, Madeline and John; and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
