Connie May Fetter, age 89, of Marion passed away at her home on Thursday February 15, 2024.
Connie was born January 6, 1935 to Arnold and lola (Berry) Sturgeon of Ostrander, Ohio.
On October 14, 1951 she was united in marriage to Richard E. Fetter of Marion and celebrated 72 years together.
Connie was a devoted farmer's wife whose main focus was to care for her husband and five children and to maintain life on the farm. Milking cows, moving equipment, caring for animals and providing food for the family through gardening and butchering were some of her duties along with keeping the books for the farm. Connie was a talented seamstress who made her own clothes as well as her daughter's. She made and sold Barbie Doll outfits and clothing for lawn ornaments such as bears and geese. Later she developed a business, Bear Stitches, and sold custom made teddy bears and dolls. Connie was always working on craft projects and could often be found sharing her love of crafting with others including her grandchildren Her family and friends will continue to be reminded of her love as they use the afghans she crocheted for them. She made potholders from the remnants of yarn and gifted those to anyone who stopped by. Connie was fiercely competitive and loved to play all kinds of games. You could frequently see her playing cards, Yahtzee, or other board games. She loved to fish on Lake Erie often bragging about the number of walleye she caught on an outing. Other challenges included wine making and gardening. She kept meticulous records of the processes that could be reviewed and critiqued. Over the years Connie had many adventures with Dick on the back of a motorcycle, in a camper, on a boat or on a dance floor. In her retirement she enjoyed helping Dick grow and maintain a beautiful flower garden that was the envy of many neighbors and prompted strangers to stop and look. Connie was always busy but never failed to stop whatever she was doing if one of her family members or friends stopped by. She would always say, "Should I make a pot of coffee. " She was the shoulder that everyone leaned on.
Connie is survived by her husband, Richard E. Fetter; children: Brandy (Patricia) Fetter of Florida, Sandra (John) Houser, Wyatt (Susan) Fetter both of Marion, Richard (Denise) Fetter of West Mansfield and William Fetter of Marion; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty (Don) Owen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one great grandchild; and siblings: Charlotte Maxine (Richard) Kelley and Arlen Sturgeon and half-sister, Donna Jean Pletcher.
Graveside service will be Monday, February 19, 2024 at Grand Prairie Cemetery, 4964 Brush Ridge Drive N, Marion; friends may gather at the front gate at 12:45 for a 1PM service. In lieu of floral arrangements, if desired, bring a single yellow rose to place beside the grave.
