Connie LuAnn Brugler Hempy, 90, of Rushsylvania, OH, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was born just outside of Big Springs, Ohio, on June 22, 1934, to the late Garrett McKinley Brugler, Sr. and Anna B Deerwester Brugler.
On Feb. 20, 1954, in Liberty, IN, she married A.M. Hempy, who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2018. She is survived by their five children: Bob (Randy Sue) Hempy of Greenwood, SC, Bill (Sharon) Hempy of North Lewisburg, OH, Beth (Doug) Meyers of Zellwood, FL, Brenda (Tim) Forrest of Milford, OH, and Barry (Jessie) Hempy of Rushsylvania, OH; 14 grandchildren, Tori Hempy, Courtney (David) Hughes, Arik (Anne Marie) Hempy, Shelby (Paul) Smith, Stacy (Shane) Everhart, Chelsea (Bob) Morris, Brad Hempy, Amber (Tony) DiSalvatore, Aaron (Mandi) Meyers, Ashley (Daniel) Miranda, Logan Forrest, Lucas Forrest, Landon Forrest and Mitchell Willie Hempy; 13 great-grandchildren, Claire, William and Margaret Hempy, Myah and Colton Everhart, Aubree, Kaylee and Grant Morris, A.J. and Ava DiSalvatore, Reagan and Roslynn Meyers, and Rafael Miranda; a sister-in-law, Joy Hempy of Hixson, TN and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Freda Van Buskirk, Garrett Brugler, Jr., Ivan Brugler, and El Vernona Williams.
Connie was a member of the Rushsylvania United Presbyterian Church and more recently attended the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church where she was active in the RUM Women of Faith. Her love of music and people was reflected through her service in many church and community activities over her lifetime. A 1952 graduate of Rushsylvania High School, she went to work as a secretary at The Ohio State University Animal Science Dept., a secretary for Buckeye Local Schools, and also worked for Logan Auction and Culligan Water, and lovingly taxied for the Amish. Her most important role was that of daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed traveling with A.M. and spending time with family. She welcomed everyone into her home and was happiest when family gathered together.
Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, OH, where Pastor Doug Meyers leads the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. Graveside service follows at Rushsylvania Cemetery in Rushsylvania, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made in Connie’s memory to the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church.
