Connie Marie Huddleston passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 4th, 2025, at the age of 71. Connie was born on July 11th, 1953, in Karnes City, Texas, to Thomas and Betty Jo Kirkpatrick.
A proud graduate of Karnes City High School, Class of 1971, Connie was a standout basketball player in her youth and a lifelong resident of the community she loved. Her heart for caring and service led her to a career in healthcare, working first as a nurse's aide at the local nursing home and later as a surgical assistant at Otto Kaiser Hospital. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bob Huddleston. They married on March 11th, 1983, and together built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Though Connie and Bob did not have children of their own, Connie embraced her role as stepmother to Terri (Danny) Witte and Mike Huddleston. She was also a devoted mother figure to her niece and nephew, whom she helped raise with great love and care. Through them, she was blessed with two granddaughters, Nikki Witte and Ashlee Webb, and eventually with fifteen great-grandchildren - all of whom were the joy of her life.
Family was always at the center of Connie's world. She treasured time spent at the Frio River, winning countless games of 42 at Huddleston family reunions, and preparing home-cooked meals that brought everyone to the table. Her talent in the kitchen led her to a long and meaningful career with KCISD, where she worked in the Nutrition Department from 1994 until her retirement in 2016, eventually leading the department with dedication and heart.
Connie will be remembered for her kindness, her warm smile, her sharp wit, and her deep love for her family and friends. To know her was to love her, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share in her life.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Betty Jo Kirkpatrick; her beloved husband, Bob Huddleston; her sisters, Marjie Lockstedt and Tommie Corcoran; and many dear family members and friends. While we grieve her loss, we rejoice in knowing she is now reunited with those she loved so dearly.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12th at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. also at the Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Griffin officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Karnes City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Winston Sellers, Billy Perkins, Caleb Nix, Nathan Webb, Terry Kempe, Jerry Kempe, Dillon Sellers, and Collin Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Webb, Danny Witte, Wesley Harvey, Casen Nix, and Nathan Sellers.

I hadn't seen Connie since we graduated from KCHS in 1971. What I do remember about Connie was her kindness and, yes, her basketball skills. My prayers are with Connie's family, whom she left behind to mourn their loss. Rest in peace, dear one.
