Connie Scott Obituary

Connie Kay Scott, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 17, 2025, at the age of 79.

She was born on May 18, 1946, in Kansas City, MO, to John S. Adams and Margaret C. Conerton. After her father's passing, from a botched ulcer surgery when she was almost two, Connie spent much of her childhood with her maternal grandparents in Brookfield, MO. When she was 6, her mother married Charles H. Smith and the family settled in Marceline, MO, where Connie joyfully welcomed three younger siblings.

As a child, Connie took piano lessons and played the flute in high school band all four year. Also in high school she was involved with art club for three years and on Marcello (AKA yearbook) staff her junior year. She worked at a restaurant in the Ozarks one summer during high school along side a high school friend, at Mattingly's Five and Dime Store (the 2 door dime store in Marceline...as it was known) where her mother, Margaret, was the store manager, in addition to a candy striper at the hospital, which impressed her future husband.

Connie attended elementary and middle school, graduating from Father McCartan Memorial School in 8th grade, graduated from Marceline High School in 1964 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Saint Mary College in Leavenworth, KS in 1968. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Virgil S. Scott, Jr., on June 1 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Marceline then moved into Virgil's mobile home to live until 1975. Together, Connie and Virgil designed and built a loving home in Excelsior Springs, MO, where she was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, they raised their two children, five cats and shared more than 57 years of marriage.

Connie and Virgil commuted together into Kansas City, where Connie worked as a Medical Technologist for 42.5 years at VA Medical Center. She was also deeply dedicated to giving back, volunteering as a docent at the Kansas City Toy and Miniature Museum, earning her 1000 hours pin over these 10 years and handcrafted bears from scratch with the AT&T Pioneers ladies for children in the hospital.

Connie found joy in life's simple routines - exercising in the pool, doing crossword puzzles, preparing delicious meals, traveling - all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and Europe. For her kids, she made and decorated the most elaborate cakes and cookies for their birthdays and at Easter. Even helped as needed in Jenny's Brownie and Girl Scout troops. Above all, she cherished time with her grandchildren and the many people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Adams; her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Charles Smith; her husband, Virgil S. Scott, Jr.; and granddaughters, Lulu Abigale Dooley and Savannah June Dooley.

Connie is survived by her children, Jennifer (Michael) Dooley of Overland Park, KS, and Jeffrey (Aimee) Scott of Kansas City, MO; her beloved grandsons, Gordon Dooley and Elliot Scott; her siblings, Paul (Marianne) Smith, James 'J.J.' Smith, and Mary Pat Smith; her godchild Amanda (McCurry) Christensen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will hold her memory close.

Connie will be remembered for her work ethic, of doing the work of two at VA, a very good seamstress for our family, love of reading (she was the person you would want on your Trivial Pursuit team), great eye for color in clothing/decorating, kindness, her devotion to family, and her joy in life's everyday moments.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum or Make-A-Wish Foundation in Connie's memory.
