Connie Woolwine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy Funeral Home - Blacksburg on Jan. 28, 2026.
Connie Ann Early Woolwine, 79, of Blacksburg, Virginia, died peacefully in her home on January 24th, 2026. She was born on January 22nd, 1947 to Willie Juanita Carter and Charles Edward Early. Connie grew up in Christiansburg, Va. where she was the top girl in her class and was offered a full scholarship to college. However, she had another offer of marriage from Baynard Leon Woolwine which she accepted. They were married and had four children. Baynard Leon, Jr., Melissa Dawn (deceased at birth), Mark Edward, and Christopher John.

Connie was a brilliant woman who was detail-oriented and took pride in everything she did. She was also a wonderful storyteller, a gift she passed on to her sons. Connie dedicated her life to her family, raising her sons while also working at PolyScientific and Kollmorgen. She was a good neighbor and known to cut hair for anybody who showed up at her kitchen door with that request and she would provide them a plate of dinner as well. She was a talented seamstress and blessed many with that gift. Connie had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she continued to develop her love of the Savior and had a wonderful community of support and friendship over her years. Connie shared her talents and her faith serving in various capacities for her church. After she retired, Connie was called to serve an 18-month mission in Salt Lake City, Utah where she helped people learn more about their ancestors through family history research. She loved the work of the temple, and it brought her great joy.

Connie is preceded in death by her husband Leon, as well as her daughter, Melissa; three siblings, sister, Bonnie Wheeler, brothers, Tommy Early and James Early; a special niece, Amy Cunningham.

Connie is survived by her brother, Joe Cruff; three sons, Leon (Stacey), Mark (Sarah), and Chris (Lisa); seven grandchildren who brought her great joy, Tyler, Logan, Taylor, Kelly, Emily, Lucy, and Jacob; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Bayne, Asher, Logan, and Weston; many nephews and nieces whom she loved.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Blacksburg. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

I remembered how sweet she was while I was in High School. I spent a lot of time at the Woolwine´s and she was always welcoming and kind to me. I enjoyed talking with her and I remember finding her car so fun back then. I am so sorry to hear she is gone and hope the family have everything they need to move forward and heal.
