Constance Beattie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2024.

Connie Ann Beattie, 84, of Lyndonville, VT passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on March 1, 2024.

Connie was born in Peacham, VT on July 25, 1939, the daughter of Charles and Thelma (Schoolcraft) White. Connie graduated from the Peacham Academy with honors in 1957 and went on to study dental hygiene at the University of Vermont. She won an award as an outstanding dental hygienist which was remarkable because she was maintaining a full time job while also enrolled as a full time student. In additional to being employed as a dental hygienist for over 30 years she organized the finances for Beattie Construction.

Connie married the love of her life, Donald C. Beattie in 1960 and raised five lovely daughters. Connie was an avid reader, bowler, golfer, gardener, Boston/Syracuse sports fanatic, and a prolific volunteer for the Lyndonville First Congregational Church.

One of the best words to describe Connie is selfless. While a truly remarkable woman, she preferred to pass on any accolades or compliments to others, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for which she was so proud. Connie had a gift with children which not surprisingly led her to be known as the “Baby Whisperer.” Her warm gentleness, calm demeanor, and guidance of family helped establish this aptly appropriate moniker. A true matriarch, Connie’s legacy will continue to thrive through her five daughters, fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. With the birth of her oldest grandson in the 80’s, Connie was known as “Mimi” to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved and spent so much time with throughout her life. The gift of love and care that “Mimi” gave to her family will forever remain the foundation of who they are.

Connie’s surviving family members include her five daughters, their children, and grandchildren. Shari Austin and her husband, Neal of Littleton, NH and their three children, Suzanne, Ben, and Stephanie. Sheryl Cota and her significant other, Bob Cairns of Lyndonville, VT and her three children, Garrett, Krystal, and Taylor. Dyan Gulovsen and her husband, Eric of Salem, CT and their two children, Zach and Caleb. Kimberly Galleher and her late husband, Henry of Littleton, CO and her children, Nick and Chris. Jennifer Ryan and her husband, James and their four children, Hannah, Dillon, Katie, and Brodie. She also had twelve great-grandchildren. Connie is also survived by two siblings Frank (Patti) White of West Brookfield, MA and Bill (Pam) White of Walden, VT. Connie is also survived by her faithful companion, Lilli (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel).

Connie is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Donald C. Beattie, a brother, Alan White, two son-in-laws, Donald S. Cota and Henry Galleher, a great-grandson, Bodon “Bubba” Cota. At a later date there will be a private burial for Connie next to her spouse.

The family would like to extend gratitude to NVRH Palliative Care and Caledonia Home Health Care and Hospice, and a special thank you to Denise Goodwin.
