Constance Hoke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Damiano Funeral Home on Jan. 12, 2026.
Constance Phyllis Hoke, affectionately known as Connie, was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Born on August 3, 1934, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to the late Rosario and Sarah (Maggio) Scheri, Connie's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and loving heart. She passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in the same town that she was born in, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Connie graduated from Long Branch High School in 1952, carrying with her the fond memories and friendships that would last a lifetime. Her career was a reflection of her dedication and service to others, as she worked diligently as an Administrative Assistant at the US Army Chaplain School and Patterson Army Health Clinic before retiring in 2005. Her professionalism and warmth made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and all those she assisted during her years of service.

Family was the cornerstone of Connie's life. She was predeceased by her loving parents Rosario & Sarah Maggio) Scheri and her devoted husband, James R. Hoke, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. Her brother-in-law Joseph J "Buddy" Cieri, and Nephews Kevin and Brian Cieri. Connie's love and guidance live on through her sister, Phyllis V. (Scheri) Cieri; her son, Vern E. Hoke; her daughter, Lynn E. (Hoke) Dolly, and son-in-law, Kevin M. Dolly. Her grandchildren, Daniel P. Hoke, Erin C. Dolly, Angelena J. Hoke, and Shannon C. Dolly, her nephew Joseph J Cieri Jr., as well as several great grand babies, both human and furry, will forever hold onto the precious memories and life lessons imparted by their beloved matriarch.

Connie's love for music was a joyous and ever-present part of her life. She could often be found singing along to her favorite tunes, her melodious voice filling the rooms of her home with warmth and happiness. Her musical interests were diverse, and her ability to recall the lyrics to countless songs was nothing short of remarkable.

Those who knew Connie will remember her for her infectious sense of humor and her loving nature. She had the exceptional gift of making people laugh and feel loved, often brightening the darkest of days with her quick wit and compassionate heart. Her presence was a comfort to many, and her ability to connect with people on a deep and meaningful level was one of her most treasured attributes.

Connie's journey through life was marked by her resilience, her generosity of spirit, and her unwavering positivity. She faced life's challenges with grace and emerged with an even greater capacity for love and joy. Her laughter, her stories, and her unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we say goodbye to Constance Phyllis Hoke, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible impact she left on our hearts. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, dear Connie, knowing that your spirit lives on in the lives of those you touched.

My deepest condolences and love to the family. Although I never had the opportunity to meet "Aunt Connie" as she was affectionately known by her nephew Joe, it´s apparent she was so loved and will be missed by many!
I´m keeping her family in prayer and thoughts.
With love,
Linda Seda

To my one and only sibling Connie Hoke. Sis, you left a big hole, what can I say. 91 is a great age, hope I make it, only 3 years to go. Ugh! I just want to say when my day comes (and I hope I beat Aunt Mary, 104) I'm gonna tell Mommy it was YOU who scrunched up her newly ironed snow white waitress uniforms. RIP what a life we had, eating Daddy's tomatoes on a blanket in the shade reading romance comics. Wow, how did I remember that? That photo is with Grandma Scheri at the Pine Tree, probably in the 40's. I'm the cute little one on the left, blue/white dress; you had red/white. I can't stop writing, so much coming through my head. So 'til we meet again, kiss Mommy n Daddy for me, my man Joe and my sons Kevin and Brian. Love you sis.
