Obituary For Constance Janet Lindau
Constance Janet Lindau, 86, of Truth or Consequences, NM passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023. She was born April 16, 1937 in Detroit, MI to George McHugh and Kathlene Pollick McHugh.
Connie will be remembered as a great lady, classy, intelligent and a great dresser! She always prided herself on her appearance. She was always vibrant and very funny at times. She had a great sense of humor! Connie was always dedicated to her family. She first went to work at North America Benefit Company, while she attended Saint Claire County Community College, where she received a degree as a registered nurse. Connie then went to work at Port Huron Hospital as an emergency room nurse. Her family later moved to Tennessee, where she went to work at Sevier County Hospital near Gatlinburg, where the family owned and operated Powdermill Toymakers, on the Great Smokey Mountains Arts & Crafts trail. After moving again to El Paso, TX, Connie took her Civil Service Exams and went to work at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss. She first worked in the emergency room before moving to the Oncology floor, treating cancer patients.
In El Paso, Connie met and married Fred G. "Bud" Lindau. The two retired to CowCamp, their vacation place in Elephant Butte and later bought a home on Springland Blvd. Connie not only gave to several charities over her lifetime, but actually partnered with her friends in T. or C., to create the TorCH Foundation. The acronym stands for Truth or Consequences Helps, and educated people about the AIDS virus, how it was transmitted, and attempted to dispel the many myths associated with the disease.
Mrs. Constance Janet Lindau will be remembered not only by the very large number of descendants she leaves behind, but by every person who ever knew her. Survivors include her children: Marie E. Pierce, Dora L. Schuster, Kyra Kathleen Fuller and Christopher Jason Smith; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in Connie's honor on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Send flowers to the service of Constance Janet Lindau
