Marleen Ann Lindau, age 92, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Abbotsford Health Care Center, where she had resided since October 23.
A memorial service for Marleen will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 14 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home, Medford, with Deacon Patrick Gierl officiating. Visitation will take place at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14 from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of Marleen's life will continue after the service at P&E's Steakhouse.
Marleen was born on December 15, 1932 in the town of Medford, the daughter of Henry and Irmal (Gowey) Gruny. Marleen grew up on the family farms until 1946 when her family moved to Dorchester and operated Hank's Bar until 1951. Marleen graduated from Dorchester High School on May 25, 1950. After graduating, she went on to work at the Dorchester Coop Office and then at the Taylor County Extension Office.
Marleen married Norman Lindau on July 24,1957 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. After her marriage to Norman, she worked in accounting in Medford for 17 years and for the Taylor County Circuit Court for 10 years before retiring in 1998. In addition to her full-time employment, she also did bookkeeping for Florena Supper Club, Turtle Club, Long Asphalt, and most recently, P&E Steakhouse, retiring just a few years ago.
Marleen served on the Taylor Credit Union Supervisory Committee for 31 years. She was an election worker, a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and served as secretary of Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Auxiliary Unit 519 in Stetsonville.
In her younger years, Marleen enjoyed accompanying Norm as he played for area dances in the Norm Lindau Band. You could also find her socializing with friends and family and sipping an Old Fashioned at bowling league or the local supper club. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on at their various celebrations and sporting events (often sharing a pan of her delicious brownies with the participants after). Marleen was an excellent baker and shared her love through a pan of fresh brownies, cookies, or doughnuts.
Marleen is survived by her daughter, Lori Denzine of Menomonie; daughter-in-law Joanie Lindau of Eau Claire; three grandchildren: April Denzine, Menomonie; Michael (Lynn) Lindau, Medford, and Kyle (Britney) Lindau, Chippewa Falls; and three great-grandchildren: Kason, Lakyn, and Isaac.
Marleen was preceded in death by her husband; son, Dean Lindau; and sister, Elaine Jacobi.
Our family is very grateful for the kind and gracious care Marleen received from everyone at ADRC of Taylor County, Aspirus Medford Hospital, and Abbotsford Health Care Center.
