Constance "Connie" Mathis was a daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandmother, warrior, and a lover of the great outdoors. She departed this world July 5, 2025 after a tough battle of breast cancer. Cancer did not stand a chance with this girl. It may have taken her body physically, but it never took the fire out of the strong willed person she was. Connie was born on October 8, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Alvin Carr and Cathy Griffin. She was raised by her dad Jeff Griffin.
Connie attended United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois. She later pursued her associates degree from Scott Community College in Travel Agency with an emphasis in business. In 1998, she relocated to the Lake of the Ozarks. Here she met the love of her life, and soulmate, Marty Mathis. Together they shared 25 years of unconditional love. It was evident that Marty loved his wife with all of his heart because he remained by her side until she drew her very last breath. They were the owners of Marty's Bar and Grill in Camdenton, Missouri.
Connie was Queen Bee of the family and was right about everything. The joke in the family is about roasting Connie's mom. Whoever acts or looks the most like her gets made fun of. Connie scored a 10/10 in all areas. As a matter of fact, if something went wrong I bet it was Marty's fault. All of her siblings respected her. She was loyal and the peacemaker of the family. She did not want to fight with anyone.
She was a river rat and loved to kayak/canoe. If you didn't keep up with her and it was dark well that was on you (IYKYK) Searching for arrowheads was her thing on the river. She was a proud grandma of her granddaughters. She would support them in any way that she could. Connie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Connie is survived by her husband Marty Mathis; stepfather Jeff Griffin; son Neil Herbert and stepson Jamie Mathis (Jen); sisters Mellissa Stevens, Cathy McGuire (Tony); brother Jeffrey Griffin II (Lu Tana); sisters-in-law Sheila Baldwin (David), Shelly Mathis; granddaughters Callie, Ryka, and Sydney; mother and father-in-law Wanda and Tom Mathis, and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her mother Cathy Griffin and sister Christina Bradney.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 am-1:00pm Friday, July 11, 2025 at Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri. A burial will take place at Mathis Cemetery in Niangua, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the family to assist with funeral and medical expenses.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes, 1270 S Business Route 5, Camdenton, MO 65020 (573) 346-2090. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.hedgesscottmillard.com.
