Corando Guajardo Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service - Yorktown Blvd. on Oct. 1, 2025.
Corando Mireles Guajardo, 93, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 19, 2025, at home with family. He was born in the Los Reyes community in Duval County, Texas, on November 27, 1931, the oldest of three sons. As a teenager, he worked to help support his family as a short order cook, which began a lifelong passion for cooking to the delight of his children and grandchildren. His mastery of the bar-b-que grill was unparalleled, and he was skilled at making delicious, homemade meals without a recipe, even with only the humblest ingredients. From the weekly Saturday morning breakfasts with his family to the after-school snacks for his grandchildren, his creations were an act of kindness.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with courage and humility. He began his basic training at Camp Chaffee (Arkansas) then continued his service at Fort Riley (Kansas), and Fort Richardson (Alaska). He was dispatched to Seattle, Washington, to depart for Yokohama, Japan, to later arrive at Inchon, Korea, where he served for 9 months. He returned to Japan then departed to San Francisco for his return trip home. He received his honorable discharge on June 5, 1952.
He was employed by Reynolds Metals Company for over 20 years. He loved the outdoors and spent many weekends at his ranch in Duval County, teaching his children how to ride a horse and later taught them how to drive so well that they could back up their truck, hitched to a trailer loaded with cattle, right up to the cattle chute. Like his mother, he inherited the skill of hunting quail, javelina, and deer.
Corando dearly loved his family. He believed in his children's potential and encouraged them to work hard and pursue an education. He was a gentle man with a warm smile that you could feel light up the room.
Corando is preceded in death by his parents, Abelardo Guajardo and Dora Guajardo, and his brothers Paul Guajardo and Gilberto Guajardo. He is survived by Cidelia Guajardo, his wife of 71 years; his son Richard Guajardo (Adelaida); his daughters, Doris Holloway (Terry), and Norma Muir (Kenneth); his grandchildren, Robert Muir, Sarah Muir and Ricardo Silva; his brother-in-law, Jose Cavazos Jr. (Maria Elena); his sisters-in-law, Marie Ramirez, Idalia Jaime, Janie Guerra; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
