Cordell Mitchell, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 14, 1949, in the small town of Yancopin, Arkansas, Cordell's life was a testament to the power of nurturing and devotion. Her final days were spent in Columbus, Ohio, as she concluded a life journey marked by kindness and service.
Cordell was the cherished daughter of the late David and Eloise (Mason) Mitchell. Her formative years in Arkansas laid the foundation for a life of compassion and caring, traits that would become her hallmark. Cordell's path took her to
Niles, Michigan, where she found her calling in nursing. She dedicated many fulfilling years to Lakeland Home Care, touching the lives of countless individuals with her gentle care and unwavering dedication.
Her spirit was woven deeply into the fabric of her family. Cordell was a loving sister to Hurley (Ida) Mitchell, Ernest (Alma) Mitchell, Jimmie Mitchell, David Mitchell, Frances Mitchell, Linda Mitchell and Karen Mitchell. Her siblings will forever cherish the memories of her thoughtful gestures and the unspoken bonds of kinship.
Cordell's legacy is carried on by her devoted children, Kevin Webster of Kalamazoo, Judy (Omar) Jallow of Winchester, Ohio, and Sigourney Broyles of Niles. Each of them embodies her loving nature and the values she held dear. Though she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommy Broyles, and her dear son, Samuel Mitchell, the love they shared continues to resonate through the family.
Her three grandchildren, Breana Ortiz, Brandi Hammond, and Adarius Webster, and seven great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Cordell instilled in them the importance of family, faith, and the simple joys of life, like the beauty of a garden in bloom or the aroma of freshly baked goods filling the home.
Cordell's commitment to her faith was evident to all who knew her. As a long-standing member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in
Niles, Michigan, since 1989, she lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and a heart that knew no bounds. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to her church community, where she served with grace and humility.
Cordell's love for her family was paramount, and she found great pleasure in the simple things-tending to her garden, where she coaxed life from the earth, and baking in her kitchen, where each recipe was infused with love. She was the embodiment of thoughtfulness, always putting the needs of others before her own.
The world is a brighter place for having been graced with Cordell's presence. She was a loving force, a faithful servant, and a thoughtful soul whose memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her family will gather for a private time of reflection at Brown Funeral Home in Niles and she will be laid to rest at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
