Corey Lane Koonce, 63, of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away on September 11, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Corey, the youngest of six children was born in Kinston, NC. He resided in Raleigh, NC the majority of his life while also residing in Louisiana and Florida.
He is predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Verna Belle Hill; father, George W. Koonce; mother, Bernice Marie Goble and eldest brother, George T. Koonce.
Corey was a lifelong fan of the music of Jimmy Buffett, living his life like a song. The soundtrack of his life was filled with Buffett's tunes, each one a reminder to live fully, laugh hard and often, and cherish every single moment.
His passion for travel and cooking took him to places like Key West, FL and Slidell, LA where he owned and operated several established restaurants. Corey approached every adventure with excitement and wonder, making lifelong friends along the way. He was also a skilled carpenter by trade and built some of the most beautiful homes up and down the East Coast.
His laughter, quick wit and amazing storytelling will be missed.
He is survived by his daughter Windy Christoff and husband Gary Christoff, and son Jonathan Koonce; girlfriend, Kelly Gallen; grandchildren Avery, Hudson and Colby; brothers, Jim and Vernon; sisters, Norma and Beth; several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will happen on a later date.
