Craven Lee Kendall, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on June 6, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on November 22, 1942, in Stanley County, North Carolina, to Edward and Inez Kendall, Craven was predeceased by his parents and by his loving wife, Shirley Kendall, and brothers Everett Kendall and Kenneth Kendall.
Craven is survived by his children: Lee Kendall and Brian Kendall (married to Julie); grandchildren: Bryce, Lauren, Harrison, and Davis; siblings: Maxine Nance, Rufus (Butch) Kendall (married to Sharon), and Kathy Burgin (married to John Burgin).
Craven graduated from Charles D. Owen High School and joined the Navy, serving actively on the USS Vesole from 1962 to 1963. After his naval service from 1960 to 1964, Craven dedicated 35 years (1967-2002) to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), retiring as Division 13 road maintenance engineer. Craven spent the majority of his spare time taking on additional work around landscaping and rock masonry.
Craven had an enduring love for Clemson football. He enjoyed annual fishing trips with close friends, and relished traveling to Ocean Isle Beach with his late wife, Shirley. Craven's life was a testament to commitment to family and hard work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A private burial will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, June 13, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals.
The family requests donations be made to: Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401, or at: LifeCare.org.
