Cruz Barrera Arredondo, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 10, 2025, in Madera, California at the age of 97. Born on May 3, 1928, in Taylor, Texas, to Abraham Barrera and Petra Gonzalez Barrera, Cruz was a woman whose life was defined by her unwavering kindness and the joy she brought to those around her.

Cruz's journey through life was one of devotion and care. On June 19, 1943, she married the love of her life, Domingo Arredondo Sr., and together they shared 31 years of marriage filled with love and mutual respect. Their union was blessed with a large and loving family, and Cruz's nurturing spirit was the cornerstone of their home.

Though she is preceded in death by her beloved husband Domingo, her sister San Juana Garcia, her brother Jose Barrera, and her son Rene Arredondo, Cruz's legacy continues through her children. She is survived by her daughters Gloria, Ophelia (Richard), Yolanda (Vernon), Diana, and Lydia; her sons Manuel, Samuel (Teri), Raul (Mary), Rogelio (Lori), Rolando, Rosendo (Jane), and Domingo Jr.; along with a remarkable lineage of 37 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren who will carry on her spirit of generosity and compassion.

A resident of Madera for 58 years, Cruz was a homemaker who took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends. Her Christian faith was a guiding light in her life, and she lived her beliefs through her actions, always extending a hand of friendship and support to those in need.

Cruz's interests were a reflection of her love for life and the simple pleasures it offers. She found happiness in tending to her garden, exploring the beauty of California and Oregon, and expressing her creativity through crochet. Her care for birds and other animals showcased her gentle nature. Cruz enjoyed pressing her luck at casinos, watching Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, and savoring coffee and pastries at La Boulangerie. She loved hosting memorable family gatherings during Thanksgiving and Christmas, where she would make her famous tamales.

Those who knew Cruz will remember her as a loving, kind, and friendly soul who cherished every moment spent with her beloved family and friends. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Cruz Barrera Arredondo's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, kindness, and friendship. As we bid her farewell, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the countless lives she touched with her generous heart. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
