Curtis Carpenter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hampton Funeral Homes - Hillsdale on Jan. 9, 2026.
Curtis Carpenter, 88, passed away on January 8, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1937, to the late Ralph and Alta (Bemis) Carpenter.
Curtis was preceded in passing by his parents, Ralph, and (Alta) Vyrene Carpenter; his son, Craig Ralph Carpenter; and his siblings, Winston Carpenter and Craig Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 65 years; children, Kathy (Greg) Mills, Eric (Diane) Carpenter, Julie (L. Scott) Hergert; daughter-in-law, Karen Carpenter; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Meredith Berryhill.
Curtis found a lot of joy in the outdoors, especially when it came to camping, hunting, and fishing. He had a true appreciation for working with his hands, which showed in his talent for wood carving. His green thumb was remarkable. A lifelong learner, Curtis was a voracious reader and a walking encyclopedia of knowledge. He had a great sense of humor and often shared that with his family. One of his greatest pleasures was bragging about his grandkids. Curtis shared many happy years with his wife, Joyce. Together, they enjoyed western square dancing and spent countless cherished days camping in Michigan. He was an active member of the MTTC camping club. Curtis was a proud Marine veteran and received two Good Conduct Medals during his service.
To honor Curtis's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be a celebration of life at a later date. Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhomes.com to sign the guestbook and/or send a condolence to the family.
