Curtis Larry Honaker, Sr., of Bluewell, WV, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 4, 2024. He was 83 years old. Curtis was born and raised in McDowell County, WV. He was the son of Estil Honaker and Bertha Wise. Curtis proudly joined and served in the U.S. Army at 17. He served as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. After his time in the military, Curtis started work in the Bluefield Police Department. He worked his way through the ranks until he retired as Chief of Detectives. During his time in the department, he worked with many agencies to solve crimes and would do so with the conviction that every family deserved closure. Curtis also retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Curtis began to pastor in several churches around West Virginia. He became pastor of Family Worship Chapel and retired after 25 years.
Curtis raised his family with love and taught his children that serving Jesus was the most important purpose in life. He knew the Bible from front to back and in every situation, quoted scripture to lead his family.
In addition to his parents, Curtis is preceded in death by his sister, Fannie Shinault; sons, Curtis, Jr. and Keith; and granddaughters, Faith and Hannah Shrader.
Those left to cherish Curtis’ memory are the love of his life, Betty, whom he was married to for over 63 years; his three daughters, Debbie (Otis), Melissa (Al), and Robin (Jess), all of Bluewell, WV; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Cuttie.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Lacy and grandson, Travis Osborn. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.cravens-shires.com. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Honaker family.
