Curtis Wayne Mathis, 88, of Cairo, Missouri passed away Sunday, October, 20, 2024.
Curtis was born August 27, 1936 in Moberly, Missouri to Walter and Lena (Cupp) Mathis. He and his family, which included five brothers, moved several times in his youth until Curtis graduated from Higbee High School in 1954. He was a member of the Missouri National Guard from December 1958 through December 1963.
Curtis met Marlene Ann Griffith at the church they both attended and the two were married on June 1, 1960 in Jacksonville, Missouri. A farmer and cattleman most of his life, Curtis and Marlene were members of both the Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the Randolph County Cattlemen's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Eugene, Floyd, Edward, and Norman Mathis, his wife Marlene, and son-in-law Tom Huntsman.
Curtis is survived by his children Brenda Woods and husband Greg of Jacksonville, Mark Mathis and wife Jewell of Cairo; grandchildren Wesley Huntsman and wife Stephanie, Andy Huntsman and wife Amanda, Calvin Huntsman and wife Kate, Elise Brendel, Caleb Mathis and wife Michaela, Olivia Cribb and husband Jacob; eleven great-grandchildren Skyler, Brendan, Logan, Chase, and Reed Huntsman, Rhett and Kelly Brendel, Brantley Huber, Opie Mathis, Leena and Zoey Cribb; brother, Robert Mathis of Kearney, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed attending farm auctions and was a collector of antique tractors and vintage farm equipment. Curtis was most proud of his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Curtis was a member of the Liberty Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Liberty Cemetery at 1793 County Road 1780 Cairo, MO 65239 are appreciated.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday October 25, 2024 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services honoring and celebrating Curtis's life will follow at 3:30 pm. Committal prayer and burial will take place in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Moberly, Missouri.
