We gather here in loving memory of Curtis "Moe" Moore, a man whose life was a testament to the joy and generosity that can be sown into the fabric of a community. "Moe" was born on April 1, 1941, in Americus, Georgia, and was called home to the Lord on October 25, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. His journey on this earth was marked by an unwavering commitment to faith, family, and fellowship.
"Moe" was a beacon of light to all who knew him, and his laughter was a balm to many souls. Raised in the warmth of Americus, he carried the spirit of Southern hospitality with him throughout his life. He dedicated his early years to the Lord and remained a steadfast servant, spreading the good news and love of Christ wherever he went. As a young man, "Moe" ventured to Florida, where he toiled with dedication in the fields of agriculture, nurturing the earth as he would later nurture the hearts of his congregation.
In the early 1990s, "Moe" was called to serve in a new capacity, moving to Dothan, Alabama, where he shepherded the flock of Seven Stars Holiness Church. As a pastor, he was a source of wisdom and comfort, guiding his parishioners through the trials and tribulations of life with a firm yet gentle hand. After years of devoted service, "Moe" stepped down from the pulpit but did not cease his labor of love. He continued to work in the community, caring for God's creation through lawncare and landscaping. Known affectionately as "Yard Man" or "Preacher Man," he touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of green spaces and grown hearts. His retirement years were filled with the simple pleasure of walking through the town he loved, greeting friends and strangers alike with a smile that could light up the darkest of days.
Moe's spirit was as rich as the Southern soil, and his humor as dark as the fertile earth he once tended. He was the life of any gathering, his presence alone enough to lift the spirits of those around him. His generosity knew no bounds, and he gave of himself freely, asking nothing in return but the joy of seeing others happy. Though "Moe" was preceded in death by his beloved parents, siblings, his cherished wife, Alice Mae Moore, and, in later years, his life partner Betty Jean Smith, his spirit of love and kinship endures. He leaves behind a tapestry of lives he touched-children, stepchildren, other relatives, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.
In his life, "Moe" was a man of many words-words of comfort, words of wisdom, words of humor. But if we were to choose the words that best describe him, they would be generous, spirited, and faith-filled. These words encapsulate the essence of a man who gave so much and asked for so little, a man whose faith was the cornerstone of his existence.
Today, as we reflect on the life of Curtis "Moe" Moore, let us hold fast to the lessons he imparted through his actions and his unwavering belief in the goodness of the Lord. Let us walk forward in the light of his example, carrying with us the love he shared so freely. Moe's journey on this earth has ended, but the path he trod will be followed by those who were blessed to know him, for generations to come.
Rest in peace, dear "Moe", "Preacher Man", "Yard Man". Your spirit marches on in the hearts of those you've touched, and your legacy will bloom eternally in the gardens of our memories.
