Mr. Curtis E. Nelson, age 86, of McFarlan, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Born on November 6, 1938, in Morven, North Carolina, Mr. Nelson was the son of the late Gene and Myrtice East Nelson. He graduated from Morven High School and was an U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Nelson retired after over 34 years of dedicated service with Coffing Hoists in Wadesboro. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Curtis was a life-long cattle farmer and carpenter specializing in home remodeling. In his earlier years, he enjoyed participating in dirt track racing. Above all, he cherished his role as “Papa” to his grandson, always supporting him at his baseball and football games.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Curtis Eugene Nelson, Jr.; sisters, Nellie Mae Tice and Earline Nelson Freeman; and brother, Melvin Glen Nelson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Becky R. Nelson; daughter, Susan (Brad) Lear of Hartsville, South Carolina; grandson, Curtis Lear of Hartsville, South Carolina; along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Perry & Sharon Johnson, P.O. Box 18, McFarlan, NC 28102.
