Curtis William Shatley, of Morrow, GA, affectionately known as Papa, passed away on March 1, 2024. He was born in Welch, WV, on August 15, 1935.

Curtis proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years. He then embarked on a remarkable career, initially as an electrician in Welch, WV, at Widener Electrical for 11 years, followed by 26 years as a Skilled Trades Electrician at General Motors Lakewood Plant. In addition to his distinguished career, Curt's vibrant personality illuminated every aspect of his life. Known for his infectious sense of humor, he delighted in bringing laughter to others. He possessed an incredible memory and will be remembered for sharp wit and captivating storytelling.

Curt's zest for life extended to his passion for dance, a love he cultivated from a young age. He generously shared his talent by teaching dance at the Fred Astaire Dance School. Those who knew him best recall how he would often encourage his beloved wife, Gail, to put on her "boogie woogie shoes" so they could hit the dance floor. Beyond dance, Curt enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including boating, fishing, hunting, monitoring the stock market, memorable brother trips, and staying active through exercise. Always a lover of travel, he and his Sweetheart, Gail, squeezed every drop out of life and approached each day with unwavering love and enthusiasm.

Curt is survived by his loving wife Gail Shatley, daughters Deborah Shatley Matani, Sherri Hatton (John), and Linda Miller (Mason), as well as step-children Rhonda McCormick and Ryan Roundtree (Kim). He was also survived by numerous siblings: Helen Fields, Dean Shatley (Marie), Gail Mercer (Bobby), Pete Shatley, Maurice Shatley (Dee), Richard Shatley (Sylvia) and sister-in-law Rosemary Shatley. Also, his grandchildren who lovingly called him Papa: Jason Duell, Ashley Duell, Miranda Byrd (Daniel), as well as step-grandchildren: Austin McCormick, Jesse McCormick (Gabriella), Cameron, Alissa and Madeline Roundtree. Followed by great-grandchildren Layla Duell and Aiden Jarman. He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Alice Faye Shatley, son Mark Shatley, as well as sisters Bertha Farris, Gladys Halpain, Judy Combs and brothers Sydney Shatley Jr. and Robert Shatley.

A visitation followed by a funeral service will be held on March 5, 2024 at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors in Morrow, GA. The burial will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park following the services.

Curtis will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy of joy, love, and laughter continue to resonate in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
