Curtis Wayne Thomas, 87, of Roscoe, Illinois, formerly of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Javon Bae Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.
Curtis was born on Saturday, November 6, 1937, in Ecru, Mississippi, the son of Curley L. and Alice Clytee (Pitts) Thomas.
Curtis grew up on a farm in Ecru, Mississippi, and graduated from Ecru High School in 1956. A few years later he moved to Beloit, Wisconsin. On September 30, 1980, Curtis married the former Sylvia Sandifer in Beloit, Wisconsin. He was employed at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Illinois mainly in the metal stamping department for 42 years, retiring in 2007. Curtis was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Roscoe, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting, working in his yard, and going out for dinner with his wife and their friends. He bowled in various bowling leagues around the area and around the country. He was a member of the NTBL (National Traveling Bowling League) for many years.
Curtis was a strong, loving, giving, and hardworking man. He deeply loved his family and would help anyone in need of assistance. If you ever mentioned that you needed something, Curtis would often run out, get it, and drop it off to you before you had time to get it yourself. Curtis loved cars, especially new cars and was known for coming home with a new car whenever he saw one he liked.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Sylvia Thomas; children, Curly Thomas, Sonja Turner, Ronald (Trudy) Turner, James (Elonna) Turner, Tony Turner, and Gary Turner; nine grandchildren including a special grandson, Curtis Wayne Thomas II; four great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Kay McGuffey; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Willard Snow. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lenolis Thomas, James "Roland" Thomas; and sisters, LaJoyce Thomas, and Freddie Jean Listenbee.
Visitation is 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 5656 Elevator Road, Roscoe, Illinois 61073. Committal at Floral Lawn Cemetery will follow the services. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin 53511, is honored to be assisting the family.
