Cynthia Avalos Obituary
Cynthia Jean Avalos, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2025, at her home in Jacksonville, NC. She was born on March 5, 1955, in Sidney, New York to the late Morgan Light and Agnes (Lent) Light. She was 70 years old at the time of her passing.
Previously residing in Orange County, California, Cynthia dedicated her professional life to serving others. She served as an apartment manager for the Americana Apartments in Orange, where she lived with her kids. She later worked at Freedom in Christ Ministries and Family Resource Ministries, where her compassion and servant's heart were evident in all she did.
A faithful member of Catalyst Church, Cynthia's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. In her leisure time, Cynthia found joy in crafting and crocheting, often creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic talent. She loved exploring antique & thrift stores and flea markets, always on the lookout for hidden treasures. Music was another of her passions. The Chosen was her favorite show, along with various British shows that revealed her unique sense of humor or settings that she dreamt of seeing in person. The Chosen was one of her favorite topics of conversation!
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and best friend, Elaina M. Avalos of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She also leaves behind her loving sisters, Dorcas Van Horn (Neil) of Sun City West, Arizona, and Susan Neilsen (Ronald) of Corona, California; and her nieces, & nephews, Amy Galbraith, Geoff Simms, Joshua Neilsen, Stephen Neilsen, Christa Neilsen, Tim Neilsen, Mark Simms, and Marquis Warren.
In addition to her parents, she is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved son, Matthew P. Avalos, who passed in May 2022.

Cynthia was the epitome of kindness, sweetness, and quiet strength. Though she was often shy and reserved, preferring to let her actions speak louder than words, she would speak up for what she was passionate about.
Her life was a gift to those who knew and loved her, and her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
