Cynthia Gunn Obituary

The family of Cynthia F Gunn is saddened to announce her passing on October 4 at the age of 66. She died in her home in Fairfax, Virginia surrounded by family and friends throughout her final days. She had a very large, loving and faithful community of supporters to help her with her journey.

Throughout her life, Cindy was an avid sports fan. As a teen she played basketball, tennis and softball. Throughout her years she played competitive soccer and volleyball. Later in life she became a lover of the game of golf.

Cindy loved to spend time at the Outer Banks with family and friends walking her fur babies on the beach early in the morning and watching the sun rise and set.

She was passionate about raising money to support The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society. She was a very generous soul and never met a stranger. Her love of nature and animals was enormous, and she homed many "rescue" dogs during her lifetime.

She started her career teaching Physical Education at York Academy. After several years teaching she returned to school and earned a second degree in Physical Therapy. She had a passion for helping people, patients and colleagues, and Inova Fairfax Hospital was her second home for decades.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Marvin Clements Gunn and Arlene Carlton Gunn (her first of many coaches).

She is survived by her wife Christine M Andrews, her sister Vicky J Gunn, her Godchildren Mackenzie Nihill and Nicholas Bonniville and many loving friends too numerous to name.

A celebration of life will be held on October 22, 2025, at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road Fairfax, VA 22032

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Great Gunns Light the Night team in Cindy's memory. The Great Gunns team is a community of friends and family led by Chris and Cindy since 2002 that has been participating in the DC area Light the Night March in support of The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society's (now Blood Cancer United) efforts to search for a cure.
