WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Cynthia Whidbee, age 73, of Waterbury, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She departed this life with unwavering determination, having bravely battled illness.
Cynthia was born on May 3, 1952, the daughter of the late Leck and Louisiana (Banks) Whidbee. She was a graduate of Perquimans County High School and went on to work at Century Brass factory for 15 years and then as an associate at Walmart for over 20 years where she retired. She found joy in nurturing her family with her delicious home-cooked meals, relaxing with her favorite pastime, watching soap operas, with "General Hospital" being her all-time favorite. Cynthia cherished long drives with her dear friend, Poochie, relishing the moments spent together and the stories shared along the way. What Cynthia excelled at the most was being a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to love and know her.
Left to honor and cherish her memory is her only son, Troy (Mabel) Rountree Sr., her three beloved grandchildren, Shayla Rountree, Troy Rountree Jr., and Travoy Rountree, and her great-granddaughter, Jade Bassoo. Cynthia leaves her siblings; Edie White, Audrey Whidbee, Nelson Whidbee, Beulah Johnikins, Lavern (Vernon) Hernandez, and Yvonne Whidbee. She was predeceased by her siblings; Margaret Sessoms, Thelma Brayboy, Alfred Skinner, Larry Whidbee, Jonah Whidbee, Ella Armstrong, Marie Sullivan, Onella Washington, Dollie White, and Lester Whidbee.
All services will be held privately at the convenience of her family.
