D'Shana Newsom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.T. Fisher Funeral Services - Chesapeake on Dec. 26, 2025.
D'Shana Kelly Newsom, of Portsmouth, Virginia, was summoned by God Almighty to enter into eternal rest on the morning of December 25, 2025, at Portside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

D'Shana was born on January 25, 1984, to the late Mr. Larry Jones and the late Mrs. Mary Jones. She attended and graduated from Portsmouth Public Schools and later matriculated at Mary Baldwin University, where she earned a degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Paralegal Studies.

In 2008, D'Shana was united in holy matrimony to her devoted husband, Major J. Newsom. From this union came their beautiful daughter, Maya, born in 2016, who was her pride and joy. D'Shana dearly loved her husband and her precious daughter.

D'Shana came to know the Lord and fully surrendered her heart to Christ. In 2007, she joined United Full Gospel Revival Center International Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Olivia D. Sharp, the late Apostle Dallas Ellis, and Senior Pastor Janet B. Ellis, her immediate pastor.

D'Shana loved the Lord and served faithfully and fervently in ministry until her health no longer permitted her to continue. She was a devoted member of the Revival Center Church family for 18 years. A dedicated servant of God, she exemplified love for God, her family, and God's people. Sister D'Shana was known for her radiant smile that could light up any room, and she will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by both her parents.

D'Shana leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Mr. Major J. Newsom; her beloved daughter, Maya Newsom; her brother, Mr. Larry Jones, Jr., all of Portsmouth, Virginia; her father-in-love, Mr. Venord Smith (Pops); Ms. Sharon Newsom (Grandma); a host of relatives, friends, and her United Full Gospel Revival Center Church family.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)

Though she is gone from our sight, she will forever remain in our hearts. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on through all whose lives she touched.
