SHARON MADDUX CARPENTER - OBITUARY
Sharon Maddux Carpenter, 72, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2025 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was born in Wilmington, NC and moved with her parents to Jacksonville when the Atlantic Coastline Railroad moved its headquarters here. She was a 1972 graduate of Jacksonville Episcopal High School.
Her entire career was spent in the field of education. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and completed her education at the University of North Florida where she earned her M. Ed. degree.
She taught elementary grades in the Duval County Public Schools and at two local private schools before going to work for the Jacksonville Childrens' Commission (Now Kids' Hope Alliance) as a Literacy Coach and Early Learning Specialist.
She is survived by her mother, Shirley Shipman Maddux of Ponte Vedra Beach; her husband, James Hall Carpenter, Jr. of Jacksonville; her daughter, Laura Faith Carpenter of Jacksonville; and her two grandsons, Josiah Victor Caneva and Lucas Stirling Caneva of Trieste,Italy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Wallace Maddux, Jr. of Ponte Vedra Beach; her brother, Robert Earle Maddux of Ponte Vedra Beach; and her daughter, Ashley Carpenter Caneva of Trieste, Italy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the charity of the donor's own choice.
At this time, there have been no plans made for a memorial service.
