D. Shuffield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midlothian Funeral Home on Dec. 5, 2025.
D. Wayne Shuffield Sr., a compassionate and dedicated man whose life was marked by loving service to God and to others, passed away on December 3, 2025. Born on September 7, 1937, in Maysfield, Texas, D. Wayne was a beacon of faith, devoting over fifty years of his life to pastoral ministry at various Texas Baptist Churches, including Belvue in Kermit, Caps in Abilene, FBC in Baird, North Cleburne, Southside in Granbury, and Battetown in Cameron. His commitment to the Lord was unwavering, reflecting the verse from 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

D. Wayne was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for John Wayne and western TV and movies, and an unwavering enthusiasm for sports, both as a spectator at live events and a dedicated viewer of all kinds of sports on TV. His love for telling stories was legendary, cultivating an atmosphere where everyone felt welcomed and valued. He never met a stranger, and his supportive nature made him a cornerstone in the lives of many. Above all, D. Wayne valued family, church, friends. He was a loving husband, waiting a year after graduating to marry his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Chauncy, in July 1956, who preceded him in death in 1972. He was a dedicated father, guiding his children with the same devotion he extended to his congregation.

D. Wayne is survived by his son Wayne Jr. and daughter-in-law Becky, his daughters Tonya James and Tambra Shuffield, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Lillie Shuffield, his daughter Debra Salazar, two grandchildren, and his sisters Dorothy Tate, Joyce Williams, and Glenda Brown.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 3:00pm CST at the Midlothian Funeral Home, followed by a visitation at 4:00pm CST. A graveside service will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 1:00pm CST at the Elmwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park.

In honor of D. Wayne's life, we encourage you to share your memories and upload photos to his memorial page. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life lived in service, love, and faith.
