Dahlia A. Stephens, a beloved member of her community, passed away at the age of 85 on April 4, 2024. She was born in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, on February 28, 1939, to Ismay Harris and Alphonse Donastorg, and her life was a testament to faith, kindness, and love.
Dahlia's devotion to her faith was unwavering. As a dedicated member of St. Augustine, she served for over 60 years, volunteering in many capacities. She was an unwavering presence in her congregation, embodying the principles of compassion and service. Dahlia was also a devoted member of the church's Women's Auxiliary Group and the Franciscan Order.
During her time at the church, Dahlia served as a Sunday School teacher, nurturing the spiritual growth of countless children with her wisdom and kindness. She also dedicated her time to the local food pantry, tirelessly volunteering to ensure that those in need were cared for. As an eucharistic minister and lector, Dahlia brought comfort and inspiration to her fellow parishioners, sharing the teachings of her faith with grace and reverence.
Dahlia's adventurous spirit led her to explore the world. She embarked on unforgettable journeys to Jerusalem and Alaska, embracing new cultures and experiences with an open heart and curious mind.
In her free time, Dahlia enjoyed playing the piano. She also found relaxation and creativity in crocheting, puzzles, and baking.
Dahlia was a cherished friend to many. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her close friendships brought joy and companionship to her life, and she valued each one dearly. In addition to traveling and spending time with her daughter Lorraine and her family, she also shared a special bond with her cousin, Roberta Harris, and niece, Brenda Hodges, whose relationships deeply enriched her life.
Dahlia was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Stephens, and her sisters, Winifred Donastorg Carter, and Ermanie Scales. They are now reunited in eternal peace.
Dahlia is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Stephens-Brown, her husband Tony Brown, and Deborah Bonner. She is also survived by her niece, Brenda Hodges, her husband, Vinny Hodges, and their extended family. Additionally, Dahlia is survived by her six grandchildren: Michael, Jada, Justine, Myla, SophieLyn, and Noah Anthony.
Dahlia A. Stephens touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and joy. Though she may be gone, her spirit will continue to shine bright in the memories of those she loved and inspired.
A funeral service to celebrate Dahlia's life will be held on
