Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dooley Colonial Home - Westfield on Nov. 14, 2025.
With profound sorrow and broken hearts, the family of Dale Orrett Colquhoun announces his passing on November 5, 2025, in Hackensack, New Jersey, at the tender age of 57. Dale was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, to the late Pastor Aubrey Lester Colquhoun and Hetty Erica Millingen-Colquhoun, who instilled in him the values of humility, hard work, and unwavering faith that would guide him throughout his life.
Dale lived his life with an unassuming nature and a gentleness that touched everyone he encountered. From his earliest years, Dale carried a quiet strength that spoke louder than any words. A gifted student, he excelled academically at Cornwall College, an all-boys high school renowned for its rigor. His exceptional performance on the Cambridge O'Level and Advanced Level examinations reflected not only intelligence but a deep love of learning that remained with him throughout his life.
He continued his education at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, initially majoring in Natural Sciences before discovering his passion for numbers and transitioning to Accounting. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies with a major in Accounting, a career path that would define his professional life.
Dale served with dedication and integrity in both the educational and financial sectors, including roles as Director of Finance at the International University of the Caribbean and Senior Accountant at KPMG. He later brought his skill and professionalism to the hospitality industry, working for many years as an Accountant at the Wyndham Hotel and ultimately at the Princess Hotel. Throughout his career, he was respected for his meticulous work, calm presence, and enduring commitment to excellence.
But Dale's greatest legacy will forever be his deep, unshakeable Christian faith. He lived every day with a reverence for God that was both inspiring and humbling. In his final moments, he held onto that faith with courage and grace. As the only son among his siblings, he was protective, loving, and quietly loyal-always a steady figure, always present, always dependable. Standing six feet tall, his gentle stature mirrored the size of his heart.
He cherished the simple, beautiful things in life: reading, nature, fresh air, the laughter of family, and the peaceful rhythm of the outdoors. From childhood, he reveled in bike riding, running, exploring, and being surrounded by the wonder of God's creation. He enjoyed
recreational football and was an enthusiastic follower of track and field. These passions painted the portrait of a man who found joy not in noise or spectacle, but in sincerity, simplicity, and truth. His love for animals, the natural world, and quiet reflection were hallmarks of his personality.
Dale leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and love. He is predeceased by his beloved parents and survives in the hearts of his devoted sisters-Althea, Audreen, Jennifer, Gillian, and Myrna-along with his cherished nieces, nephew, and brothers-in-law. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will remain a blessing and a guiding light to those who loved him.
Dale's life was one of quiet devotion-to God, to his family, to his work, and to the simple beauty of the world around him. He departed this life with the same dignity, gentleness, and faith with which he lived it, now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved mother. Though the sorrow of his passing is overwhelming, we give thanks for the gift of his life, for the peace he now surely knows, and for the legacy of kindness, compassion, and love he leaves behind.
Some people leave footprints on our hearts that will never wash away, and his will remain with us forever. The love he gave so freely continues to surround us, and though he has gone ahead of us, the light of his faith still shines upon the path he leaves behind.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
