Dale L Conkling

Dale L. Conkling, 80, of South Hutchinson, died September 17, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones and favorite music at Wesley Medical Center. He was born October 1, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Edward and Margaret (Belt) Conkling.

Dale graduated from Partridge Rural High School in 1962 and received his associates degree from Hutchinson Community College. He worked maintenance at Morton Salt for many years before retiring. Dale served as president of Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers, the Salt Creek chapter. He was a staple at the Ye Old Mill during the Kansas State Fair for many years and his artistic creations provided great entertainment for riders. For the last several years, Dale could still be found at the fair most days. Visitors could often count on seeing him as his usual gate taking tickets.

Dale had an immense love for music; he passionately played the guitar and sang for all to hear. Dale could often be found at the Reno County Farmers' Market where he performed for many years. Some of his favorite songs to play and listen to were "Hound Dog" and "Blue Suede Shoe."

Dale loved people. He could often be found engaging in conversations no matter where he went. Dales infectious smile, fun personality and genuine kindness made it easy for him to make so many connections with people.

On April 23, 2015, he married Brenda Adams at Bethany Nazarene Church. They shared 10 beautiful years of marriage before his death.

Dale is survived by: beloved wife, Brenda Adams-Conkling of South Hutchinson; children, Danny Conkling of McPherson, Jackie (Jeremy) Anschutz of Herington, and Ashley (Ernest) Penner of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Dustin Conkling of Hutchinson; Lucas and Matthew Anschutz of Manhattan, Serenity Penner of Hutchinson, and Kayden Anschutz of Herington; great-grandchild, Dravyn Conkling of Hutchinson; brother, Bob and Linda Conkling of Partridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Bethany Nazarene Church, 408 Kent Rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jason Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. September 19, 2025, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel.
