Dale Horning Obituary

Dale E. Horning, 68, of 9 Oak St. Towanda, Pa., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday evening, Nov. 13, 2010 from the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.

Dale was born in Daggett, Pa., on June 22, 1942 a son of the late Merle Horning and Marjorie Grace Horning Davies. He was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1960 and a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College.

On July 6, 1963 he married the former Margaret "Peggy" Trine in the First United Methodist Church, Towanda. Dale was employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda for 30 years until his retirement in August of 2001. Dale was a dedicated member of the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda since 1971. He served 19 years as a deacon, and many years as Sunday School superintendant, Sunday School teacher, and as a Lay Speaker for his church and at the Bradford County Manor. Dale served as a member of the Third Ward Election Board in Towanda Borough and as Chairman of Elections for a number of years. He was also a dedicated blood donor and a member of the National Rifle Association. Dale will be remembered for his commitment to God, family and his community. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports events. Dale enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, caring for his home and working on construction projects.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Horning, at home; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle E. and Carissa Horning of Towanda; daughter and son-in-law, Kyleen H. and Michael Dinelli of Towanda; grandsons, Anthony Dale Dinelli and his fiancé Tierney Snyder of Muncy, Pa., Garrett D. Dinelli and Brandon M. Dinelli, both of Towanda; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Sue Horning of Lake Wales, Fla., Robert and Carol Davies of Woodhall, N.Y.; sisters, Donna Vaughn of Williamsport, Pa., Jennifer Swain of Blossburg, Pa.; several aunts,uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; and a special aunt, Norma Benjamin of Alabama.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Independent Baptist Church, Cherry Street, Towanda, Pa., with Pastor Donn Hauser officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, Pa.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Independent Baptist Church, 109 Cherry St. Towanda, PA 18848, in Dale E. Horning's memory.

Peggy, I remember Dale sitting in the seat back of me at school for years. He was such a great guy! You have been blessed to have had him as your husband for 47 years. I know we were just babies when we lived near your family, but I clearly remember all our trips back up to Towanda and the great times we had with you guys.
