Dale Eugene Porter

Dale Eugene Porter, age 91, passed away on Saturday, May 25th at his home in Phoenix, Arizona after a long and blessed life well lived. Known for his great personality, Dale always had a quick wit and fun demeanor. He was a natural leader, articulate communicator and always very stylish. He was born to Harold and Ruth Porter on March 15, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in Sylvania and Maumee with his brother Arliss. Dale was an outstanding athlete, holding many records in track and basketball. He received a full ride athletic scholarship and was later inducted into the Maumee High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Dale began his career in Phoenix where he met and married Lorraine Mann. He learned to love the Lord and became a Christian, which had a profound impact on the rest of his life.They later moved to Reno for his job in the insurance industry and it was there where they raised their five wonderful and talented children of whom he was so very proud. Dale spent most of his career as a paralegal at the prominent defense law firm Hibbs, Roberts and Lemons. Dale played a pivotal role in the Reno-Sparks Church of Christ. For 15 years, he served as an Elder, Treasurer, Song Leader and high school Bible class teacher. Dale also coached Little League baseball. In 1988, Dale retired and landed in Sun Lakes, Arizona where he got a job as the Guest Host Pro, playing his favorite sport of golf with guests. He served as the President of the Oakwood Men’s Golf Club and those men introduced him to his wife, Anne. Dale and Anne moved to Florida - for more golfing - and ended up staying for 11 years. Dale would refer to those years as “the best years” because of the many great friends they had. They spent ten winter seasons in Minneapolis taking care of two of their grandkids while their parents were on a holiday tour for their music business. In 2013, they returned to Phoenix where he worked as a Host for the McCormick Railroad Park greeting people and cracking jokes. At the age of 87, Dale retired altogether. He took up painting and served on volunteer committees at the Camelback Church of Christ and enjoyed a lovely picnic every now and then with Anne. Since Dale loved to drive, he and Anne were able to travel and see many destinations they were anxious to see. Dale’s love of the Lord and faithfulness to His church never waned. One of Dale’s favorite hymns was “No Tears In Heaven”, but there are many on earth today.

Dale is survived by his wife of 32 years, Anne, as well as his five children, Chip (Christi) Porter, Lorie (Tim) Line, Lorinda (Chuck) Cantoya, Loreece Turner and Lorelle Porter and their mother, Lorraine Porter. He also had three step-children, Elizabeth (Jon) Chase, Rev. William (Diana) Foy and Michael Foy. He is survived by nine grandchildren. Taylor Porter, McKenna (Kelly) Ward, Reagan Porter, Kendall Line, Jackson Line, Brogan Cordova, Bronson (Cheyenne) Cordova, Tatum McNair and Lincoln Turner. Additionally, he had five step grandchildren Jon Allen Chase (Amanda), Abigail Chase, Will (Sarah) Foy, Christina Foy, and Stephan Foy. Dale had six great grandchildren, all under the age of four. 

He will be laid to rest at Mesa City Cemetery in a private family service.
