Dale Alexander Porter, 86, of Mentor, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2025.
Dale was born in 1939 in New Brighton, PA to John and Blanche Porter. He graduated from Willoughby Union High School where he met the love of his life, Adda, and they were married. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO until being released from active duty to service in the Army National Guard of Ohio. Dale pursued a career as an electrician and was a proud union member of IBEW Local 673, serving as financial secretary for years.
Dale was a lifelong tennis player whose passion for the sport kept him active and connected with his community. He was a dedicated member of Mentor United Methodist Church. His love of trains led him to volunteer countless hours at the Midwest Railway Preservation Society and the Painesville Railroad Museum, where he used his construction and electrical skills to help renew and restore the historic buildings.
At just 19 years old, Dale purchased 69 acres in Utica, PA from his uncle, where he used his skills to build a cabin at what would become known as Porterdale. This was Dale's happy place and he enjoyed sharing it with everyone. There were many retreats, family get togethers, campouts and fun times at his property.
Dale and Adda made many memories together traveling the world and volunteering for those who are less fortunate. Dale will also be remembered for spending time sharing his knowledge and skills with the family.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Adda V. (Bogun) Porter. Dale's memory will live on through his children, Heidi (Chris Moyer), Holly (Brian Morgan), and Matthew (Mary) Porter, and his grandchildren Zachary (Chelsea), Noah, and Chloe. His brother John Porter and his family will dearly miss him.
Dale's funeral will take place at 11 AM on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060, with a luncheon to follow. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.
Committal service will be at 2 PM Monday, December 1, 2025 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd., Chester Twp., OH 44026.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Dale, donations may be directed to the employee gift fund at The Village of St. Edward, Wadsworth, OH 44281. Donations must include the note: Employee Gift Fund.
