Dale Kenneth Scheffs

Capt. Dale K. Scheffs, SC, USN (Ret.) of Haymarket, Virginia, formerly of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of 70.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madeleine A. Lynch, and by his parents, Kenneth Paul Scheffs and Rosemarie Scheffs.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Madeleine Scheffs; his stepdaughter, Katie Galluzzo (Ryan Werts); his sister, Carol Ruf (Chris); and her children Casey, David, and Ryan.

Dale completed 26 years of active service in the U.S. Navy and retired on February 1, 2004, after serving at Chief of Naval Operations, Director, Assessment Division, Washington, D.C. He received his master's degree from the University of Kansas and his bachelor's degree from Marquette University. His distinguished naval career included duty stations at Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va.; Defense Energy Support Center, Fort Belvoir, Va.; Navy Petroleum Office, Fort Belvoir, Va.; USS Kansas City (AOR 3); Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Naval Supply Depot, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines; Naval Submarine Support Facility, New London, Conn.; and USS San Jose (AFS 7).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., both at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Innocence Project and to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Military honors will be rendered at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date, in recognition of his honorable service to our nation.
