Obituary
Dall Curtis Cochrun
September 4, 1938- April 21, 2025
Dall Curtis Cochrun, 85, passed away at the Worland healthcare and Rehabilitation center on Monday, April 21, 2025, with Donna Mills, Pastor Chuck, and Cris Powell by his side.
He was born on September 4, 1938, in Huray, Kansas, the fourth child of Edwin M. and Edna May (Hubbard) Cochrun, and he spent his early years working and playing on the family farm.
As a young man, Dall proudly joined the United States Air Force. After his service, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. One fateful night, while out on the town, Dall found himself in a bar fight that landed him in the hospital with a broken jaw. It was there he met the nurse who would change his life-Sharon Gearhart. They began dating and were married on July 30, 1966, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Because of Dall's job with the railroad, the newlyweds traveled in a bunk car, following the rail lines and repairing telegraph systems.
In 1967, Dall and Sharon welcomed their first child, Rebecca, born at 6 pounds, 6 ounces. Tragically, she passed away just three weeks later. In 1969, they celebrated the birth of a healthy son, Chad followed by Justin in 1971. In 1986, their daughter Hanna was born prematurely and stillborn.
In the early 1970s, Dall began a long and valued career with Condict & Sons, a farming and ranching operation in Saratoga, Wyoming. He worked there for over two decades and became known as a "heck of a good cowboy," often leading the haying crew. Sharon, meanwhile, kept everyone well-fed as the crew's beloved cook. As anyone in this church can attest-"Heck of a good cook too."
In the early 2000s, the Cochruns moved to the Orchard Ranch, about 30 miles south of Ten Sleep. Dall worked as a ranch hand and Sharon once again cooked for the crew. It was during this time that many in the community came to know and love them, especially through evening Bible studies hosted at their home on Deep Creek.
Later, they moved north to work for Wally and Rebecca Trembath before finally settling down in Ten Sleep, right on Main Street-conveniently across from the Baptist Church. Dall and Sharon dove into small-town life with full hearts. They were people-people who found joy in everything from gardening, cooking, and church life to senior center socials, community choirs, parades, and school events.
As time passed, life brought its challenges. Both Dall and Sharon experienced health issues, and dementia began to affect Dall. Eventually, they moved into Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. On March 29, 2023, Sharon passed away. Dall was heartbroken but resilient. He soon found new rhythms at the center, participating in group activities, pedaling the stationary bike for miles, and finding joy in church singing. One nurse shared that when Dall couldn't sleep, she'd grab a wheelchair and they'd race down the hall-he'd sometimes let her win, though he was quite skilled himself. Another caregiver came regularly to read him the Bible. Through it all, Dall remained the cheerful, kind-hearted soul everyone loved-always smiling, singing, or whistling, and bringing light wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon; his children: Rebecca, Hanna, Chad, and Justin; his parents; and two of his sisters: Audrey F. Cochrun Schneider, and another whose name is not listed here.
He is survived by his grandsons: Ty Cochrun of Casper, Wyoming; John Werbelow of Riverton, Wyoming; and J.C. Ayers of North Dakota; daughter-in-law Peggi Werbelow of Riverton, Wyoming; great-grandchildren Paisley, Flynn, and Jade; his sister, Carol Elmquist of Leuray, Kansas; and niece, Brenda.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday May 3, 2025 at the Baptist Church in Ten Sleep, Wyoming with Pastor Chuck Powell officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and American Legion Post 44. Memorial donations may be made to Bryant Funeral home to assist with funeral expenses or the Ten Sleep Baptist Church. Please send checks to PO Box 524 Worland, Wyoming 82401.
