Larry Cochrun Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 23, 2025.
Larry Allen Cochrun, aged 80, passed away on January 17, 2025.

Larry was born on April 7, 1944, in Visalia, California. He graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1961 and attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1965. During his service, he worked aboard an icebreaker that took him to Antarctica and Greenland. After completing his four years of service, Larry earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Following graduation, Larry began his engineering career in Quincy, Massachusetts. However, the cold New England winters prompted him to return to California after one year. He joined Bechtel Power Corporation in San Francisco, where he worked for 20 years. While at Bechtel, he also earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Golden Gate University.

After two decades with Bechtel, Larry embraced an international career opportunity as a Projects Director. His work took him and his wife Mary to Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, and Trinidad, where they lived for several years in each country. These experiences allowed them to explore the world together while Larry continued his impactful career.

In his personal life, Larry cherished time with his family. He enjoyed following his favorite sports teams and watching his grandchildren grow. He also found joy in fishing and hiking at the family cabin in Mineral King, a place close to his heart.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beatrice Cochrun, and his brother Charles. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary; his children Ann and Paul; his daughter-in-law Erin; and his beloved grandchildren Alice and Shae.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those he leaves behind.
