Dallas Lee Bowman, 86, of Adel, passed away on December 17, 2024.
Dallas was born on July 25, 1938 to Harold and Erma (Grohe) Bowman in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1956 and soon after married Belva Renner at the Methodist Church in Jefferson on June 16, 1957. To this union, two daughters were born, Cindy and Teresa. Dallas was a lifelong farmer, always innovating new techniques and methods.
Dallas was a master pork producer, active in his community in the Jaycees, Dallas County Soil Conservation District Chairman, and served as the school board president. He enjoyed participating in contour plow competitions and won many events at the local, state, and national levels. He won the 1963 National Contour Plowing Championship, which allowed him to represent the USA in the 1964 World Plowing Competition in Austria. Dallas continued to be active with the Contour Plowing Association organizing matches and served as a judge at future matches. This included judging a world competition near the Amana Colonies in Iowa.
Dallas is survived by his wife, Belva; daughters, Cindy (Dean) Laughlin and Teresa (David) Groves; granddaughter, Olivia (Colin) Guthrie; and one great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Elaine Betts, and Lois Skinner.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Adel United Methodist Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
