Dan Edward Benkert
Dan Edward Benkert, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on the Saturday, December 28, 2024, following complications from pneumonia.
Born on August 13, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Frank C. and Anna M. (Kerlosky) Benkert, Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married Patricia Sensabaugh on September 25, 1968, who predeceased him, along with their infant child, his parents, and sisters Magdalene and Rosann (Dale) DuRussel, as well as brothers Joseph and Frank Jr. (Nancy).
Dan was a Vietnam veteran, a proud union member, and machinist for General Motors for over thirty years and was a lifelong resident of Spaulding Township.
Dan is survived by his children and their spouses: Dan Benkert II (Tricia) of Saginaw, Dawn Benkert of Saginaw, and Dean Benkert (Becky) of Romeoville, IL. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Debra Benkert Wesolek (Justin), Diane Benkert Opperman (Robert), Sahara Benkert, Mallory Benkert, James Benkert, and Jacob Hartney. He also cherished his two great-grandchildren, EJ and Alyssa Wesolek. Dan is additionally survived by his brother, Carl (the late Joyce) Benkert, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
Dan had a love of sports and enjoyed watching with his family. Dan’s spirit, kindness, and humor will be remembered by all who knew him. He supported his children and grandchildren by attending their games, and enjoyed watching live sports with family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 5700 Dixie Hwy, Saginaw, MI 48601, with Rev. Michael Wesolek officiating. Burial will follow in Spaulding Township Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
