Dan Hewitt Obituary

Dan Hewitt, age 65, of Brookwood, passed away on November 23, 2025, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Bill Teat officiating. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. The youngest of three children, he was very close to his parents, caring for his mother until she had to be placed into a nursing home. His father had a 3rd grade education, so Dan would read him the Sports page of the paper every morning. He loved sports! Living and breathing Alabama Football! His ability to remember even the most obscure plays was uncanny. Dan graduated from Holt High School in 1978. After life had taken them on different paths, he rekindled a love with one of his former classmates, Carolyn Palich, and she later became his third wife (they married on today's date, December 1, the date of his service). He fulfilled a lifelong dream, graduating from The University of Alabama. Mr. Hewitt was preceded in death by his parents J.D. Hewitt and Jimmie Nell Hewitt as well as his sister Patricia Hewitt Wilson and her husband Andy. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Elaine Hewitt of Brookwood; daughters, from his second marriage, Brittany Hewitt Stuffel (Chris) and Jaclyn Hewitt (Ben Burchfield); grandson Colton Elliot Burchfield; brother James O. Hewitt (Charlotte); stepdaughter April Nash (Andy); stepson Ryan Jones (Carman); and step-grandchildren Alexander Jones, Dayton Nash, Boston Nash and Dennie Stuffel. The family wishes to recognize Bill Teat, Bryant Teat, Jim Spitzley, David Hewitt (nephew), Scott Hewitt (nephew), Allison Freeman, John Palich, Dorcas Green-James, The Staff of Davita Dialysis, Dr. Joe Wallace, Staff of UAB-CPCC, Nurse Ben on S-8 Spain Wallace Rehab, Ora Deloach and the Many Coworkers of Mercedes Benz, as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Dan's honor can be made to any local animal rescue, Metro Animal Shelter, or any local veterinarian offices for the care of rescue pets.
