Dan Roosenberg died in Huntsville on May 27, 2024, at the age of 74 of complications from throat cancer.
Daniel Allen Roosenberg was born on May 6, 1950, to Ruby (Halvorsen) and Henry Roosenberg at Allegan General Hospital in Allegan, Michigan. He joined older brothers David and Dick and preceded younger brothers Tom and Tim who spent their early years on family farms in Van Buren County, Michigan. One of Dan's jobs was driving a wagon loaded with hay to the barn. He enjoyed that responsibility and showed his quick-thinking skills when he regained control of a tractor that unexpectedly started in reverse, heading back downhill. He also cared for the chickens and rabbits, and played softball at school.
In the early 1960s his parents decided to give up farming and moved the family to Berrien Springs where they took over operation of Dan's Cabinet Shop, established by Ruby's father during the depression. Dan learned cabinet making and other woodworking skills at the shop while attending Andrews Academy where he was elected student body president, played basketball, and met his future wife, Lenette Moulds. After he graduated in 1968, Dan joined the army, married Lenette and lived in California where his daughter Lacey was born. Returning to Michigan, Dan became the third-generation operator of Dan's Cabinet Shop and welcomed daughter Annie.
Seeking a more rural environment and simple life, in 1983 Dan moved to Arkansas where he worked at various businesses in town, tended a garden, enjoyed reading, and continued his life-long devotion to the Detroit Tigers baseball team. He also relished travel to California to visit his daughters and four grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2024 at Aurora Cemetery. Please bring chairs, and a potluck dinner will follow. Cremation is entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home, Huntsville, Arkansas.
