Graveside services for Dan J. Stansel of Bullard will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery Pavilion in Tyler with Rev. Richard Luna officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Dan J. Stansel, age 80, passed away at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX.
He was born on September 1, 1944, in Greenville, TX, to Jesse Merle and Tennie Clay Stansel and passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025 in Tyler. He had 2 older sisters and one identical twin brother, Don.
He graduated from Greenville High School in 1962 and graduated from East Texas State University in 1967.
He joined the US Navy in 1967 and proudly served until 1971. He married the love of his life, Shirley Bailey, on January 25, 1966.
He was a long-time resident of Nacogdoches. Dan and his partner owned and operated the Hot Biscuit Family Restaurant as well as HB's and TacoUSA.
After retiring from the restaurant business, he became a real estate broker with Landmark Reality, selling commercial real estate.
He was involved in the business community and served on the Board of Directors of Fredonia State Bank for many years.
Dan enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, hunting, golfing with his friends at Emerald Bay, and especially traveling in his RV with family and father-in-law, Doc, and friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty Pope and Jeanie Green, and brother Don W. Stansel.
Dan is survived by his wife Shirley of 59 years, daughter Carrie Stansel, sister-in-law Diana Stansel, and her daughter Tisha Stansel and children.
