Dan Vaniman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Falowski Kalis Mcintee Funeral and Cremation Services - Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 1, 2025.
Dan L. Vaniman, Jr., suddenly passed away at home on September 1, 2025 with his wife Nancy by his side. Dan was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and passed before he could begin treatment.
Dan was born on February 20, 1947 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. After graduating from Stranahan High School, Dan joined the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and after seven years left the police department as a Sergeant to join the U.S. Secret Service in 1975.
Dan's secret service career led him to the Miami Field Office, the West Palm Beach Field Office, and the Presidential Protection Detail for Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Dan went on to become a defensive tactics instructor at the U.S. Secret Service academy where he made lasting impacts on hundreds of secret service agents. Dan's final assignment in the secret service was in the San Francisco Field Office as the Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge.
After his retirement in 1997 Dan returned to South Florida and worked as the security director for the Federal Reserve Bank in Miami, the Florida Marlins, and for the entertainer Jimmy Buffett. Some of Dan's proudest achievements were obtaining a private pilot's license, a black belt in Hapkido and the birth of his daughters, Jill and Heidi.
Dan is survived by his brother Eddie Miles, daughters Jill and Heidi Vaniman, and his wife of 30 years, Nancy Vaniman.
