He was born May 18, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Rodney and Gail Firlus Smethurst. Dane was a machinist for Grede Foundry in Milwaukee. Additionally, he had worked at Atlas Moving Co. and was a manager at both Kmart and Sentry Foods. He enjoyed woodburning like his father before him and was an avid NASCAR fan, who was not to be disturbed while the race was on.
Dane is survived by his mother, Gail; three sisters, Dana Stolz, Dawn Aleman and Denise Queen; one brother, Danny Smethurst; uncle, Bruce (Ann) Firlus; stepson, Tony (Christina) Braley; stepdaughter, Shea Tyacke; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Smethurst; two brothers, Darrin and Dean Smethurst; and his sister, Dena Smethurst.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin. Anyone wishing to send a sympathy card to the family, please mail to Dane Smethurst, c/o Barbola Funeral Chapel, PO Box 201, Berlin, WI 54923.
