Danene Stephens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service on Feb. 3, 2026.
Danene Ochoa Stephens, of Hanford, passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 48. A woman of growing faith, Danene had recently begun praying her rosary twice a day, finding comfort, strength, and closeness to God through her devotion.

Born on August 31, 1977, Danene dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked for many years as a CNA and medical assistant, serving with compassion and dedication, before choosing her most cherished role being a full-time mom. Her love for her family was unwavering and evident in everything she did.

Danene was married to the love of her life, David Stephens, and together they shared countless adventures, including spontaneous motorcycle rides that brought her joy and freedom. She loved a good thrift store, yard sales, and any outing that felt like an adventure. Her home was always open no matter who you were or when you showed up, you were always welcome.

She was known for her humor and honesty, often joking that she "didn't like other people's kids" yet those same kids were always drawn to her. She treated every child who entered her home like her own, which meant if they did something wrong, she would yell at them just as she would her own kids. They listened, respected her, and felt safe with her, because they knew her heart was bigger than her jokes.

Danene is survived by her beloved husband, David Stephens; her children, Daylene Garity and her husband Chase Garity, Marissa Cortez and her husband Angel Cortez, Christian Ochoa and his partner Alyssa Park, Izak Calderon, and Tanner Stephens; and her cherished granddaughter, Elia Cortez. She is also survived by her sister, Deanna Ochoa; her brothers, Phillip Ochoa Jr, Ernie Ochoa, and Christopher Ochoa; along with many extended family members and friends who were touched by her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Ochoa (2016) and Dolores Ochoa (2025).

Danene will be remembered for her fierce love, open door, deep loyalty, and the way she made people feel like they belonged. While we grieve her loss, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and held in God's eternal love.

A Rosary and funeral mass will be held on Friday February 27,2026, at 10:00 am at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Hanford CA.
