Daniel Haynes Amberg, 91, of Holton, passed away on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 at home.
Daniel was born on Christmas Day 1932 to Jacob Henry Amberg II and Courtenay Dolores Herpin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He served in the Navy aboard the USS Walter B. Cobb during the Korean War, attaining the rank of SOG3.
Returning home, Daniel relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked as a draftsman. While in Phoenix, Daniel sang lead with the Ron Patty Gospel Quartet, sharing the stage with well-known artists including the Oak Ridge Boys. They released three albums and had a TV show, Songs Across the Desert. He graduated with a Master's degree in mathematics from Arizona State University. His teaching career took him to Las Vegas, Nevada from 1969 through 1980.
Daniel continued to teach high school and college math in and around Wrightwood, California until his retirement in 1991. Following his teaching career, he spent a few years seeing the country as an over-the-road truck driver.
Daniel was known for his quick wit, sharp intellect and ready smile. He considered himself a friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his mother, his father and his brother, Jacob Henry Amberg III.
Survivors include his long-time companion Kristi Adams, and his children, Sherry Kirkpatrick (David), Edmond Oklahoma, Daniel S. Amberg, Phoenix, Arizona, Jennifer Amberg (Marcus), Palm Springs, California and Stephanie Amberg-Brown (Omer), Apple Valley, California.
Other survivors include his niece Cathy Reineke, Cushing Oklahoma, his nephew, Jack Amberg, Yukon, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church of Holton on Friday, June 14th, at 2:30 p.m. The service will be preceded by a luncheon at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will follow the service in the Holton Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to First Christian Church, for Week of Compassion, and may be sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS 66436.
